the competiton begins..... 05/04/2010
![]() Linda Mcrae and Dave Lang were next to play the Blackbird, April 30th..... the evening was fantastic, we laughed... Dave Lang's views on life and love.. we cried... James Whitmire's poem to his wife Linda... and , we tried to figure out how to work the reverse rider into the conversation...... finally, well after the show and several red wines... Dave was feeling peckish, and wandering about the kitchen.... having toured last year with David Newberry he had actually heard rumour of this musician breakfast.... "what did they make??" ..."how many people did they serve?"... it was not long before I found the archilles heel... Dave is ever so slightly competitive....he seemed to have suceeded to get James and Linda halfway convinced of the joys to be had the next morning in the kitchen.... A quick primer on the espresso machine, the baking case, and instructions to collect eggs and newspapers form the gas station across the street.. and I was confident another cozy morning under the pendeltons lay ahead... Now Mr. Lang has been thru the Blackbird before... apron on, that man knows his way around the kitchen.... last year saw him making up trays of German haystacks... so I had confidence that everything would go to plan.... 6 hours later, rattling of espresso cups were heard... a fire crackling... I rose, expecting a double espresso, and instead was presented with a request for french bread. Dave was making Toad in the Holes... very serious business this reverse rider.... he was taking this to the next level.... Linda was cooking up potatoes, James "I just like a bowl of dry cereal in the morning" was requesting perhaps "just a little something".... sausage AND bacon?? oh my....and before long we were sitting down to a most glorious meal.... Dave had consumed several americanos, and was happily vibrating around the kitchen, plating, serving...and popping out to chop some wood...("how much did Ryen chop?") and by the time the dishes were done, laundry dried... indeed the bar had been raised... With full hearts, new friends, full tummys, and new recipes we waved goodbye to our new champions of the reverse rider musician breakfast... The blackbird girlz looked at each other, and then at me, "is there someway we can get the reverse rider in writing???" welcome May musicians, welcome....... CommentsLeave a Reply |
